Area Attractions
Your trip to Hickory Hill offers much more than just lakefront relaxation and good fishing. Visit the Land between the Lakes, a 170,000 acre forest and wildlife preserve, so called because it lies between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. By boat you can explore the many bays and coves and watch the soaring eagles, hawks and herons. By auto, travel the Trace through Land between the Lakes and view the lake from the many overlooks and scenic trails. You'll also want to visit the Woodlands Nature Center, the Planetarium, Home Place (an 1850's working farm), and nearby you'll see live buffalo and elk in their natural habitat. There is also 200 miles of hiking and biking trails and an off-highway vehicle area for 4x4's, motorcycles and four-wheelers. The Land Between the Lakes Nature Station offers varied wildlife tours including moonlight canoe trips and many, many activities for children. We will help you make arrangements if you are interested in participating. There are also many important Civil War Historic Sites, including auto tours and retraceable paths of marches and battles by General Grant at Fort Henry and Fort Donelson. The area also boasts many fine restaurants, all with varying specialties: catfish and other seafood, barbecue pork and ribs, steak, prime rib and of course family style Kentucky home cooking. You'll also find seasonal activities. Sailing regattas, power boat racing, arts and craft fairs; local old time festivals like Tater Day, Aurora Country Festival, the Forgotten Past Steam and Gas Show, The Quilt Show and Museum in Paducah, Ham Festival, Hot August Blues, Harvest Days. Museums and antique shops abound. The area has live Country Music shows, Water Park, a variety of Go-Cart tracks and a number of Miniature Golf courses. In nearby Metropolis (about 40 miles) riverboat gambling awaits you. Simulcast thoroughbred racing is available in Paducah (in season). Feel free to ask us about things to see and do. Or, if you like, just sit back and relax. Enjoy the peace and solitude of the resort. |
